Mariel Nyröp is the Post-Baccalaureate Technologist-in-Residence and a former Undergraduate Fellow with the Five College Digital Humanities Initiative, which focuses both on helping artists and scholars to integrate technology into humanities scholarship and creative work, and also to bring those disciplines to influence technological growth and spread. At 5CollDH, Mariel specializes in on- and off-line media—from web development and design to theoretical discourses on technology. This includes building and maintaining the site, producing original web content, crafting print media, developing workshops, and consulting with students, faculty, and staff on their projects relating to technology and media.

A recent graduate of Hampshire College, Mariel concentrated in contemporary art, technology, and cultural theory. Her current academic and artistic practices consider network culture and the aesthetic and political implications of affective labor. Most recently, Mariel conceived and led an undergraduate course on the future of network solidarity (Peer2Peer: Democracy, Deregulation, & Discontents) and curated an international artists’ digital residency program on the topic of cloud computing (Embarrassment Party).
